Higonokami
In 1894 Mr. Tasaburo Shigematsu, a hardware wholesaler, introduced a new pocket knife with its blade and sheath folded by installing a small handle “Chikiri (tail)” on the blade, while inspired by the knife he brought back from Kagoshima.
He named it “Higonokami Knife” , and in 1911, at the First Kobe Export Articles Competitive Exhibition, Crown Prince (later Emperor Taisho) liked the Higonokami on display very much and bought one, which is said to have helped its fame further spread.
Discover the time-honored tradition of Japanese craftsmanship with our stunning Higonokami knives. The Higonokami, a traditional Japanese pocket knife, features a unique friction-folding design and a razor-sharp blade that has been masterfully forged using ancient techniques. These knives are not only functional tools but also true works of art, showcasing the beauty and skill of Japanese blade smithing.

Sharp knife, great quality & fast delivery.
Just received the Seki Mae Dark Eboni 3 Knives Set only 2 days after purchasing! Very speedy delivery which was greatly appreciated. The value for money and quality of these knives is unreal. They are absolutely beautiful, even more stunning in person than in the pictures which is rarely the case when shopping online nowadays.
The history of the region that they come from adds another layer of intrigue to these knives. Since the 13th century, swordsmiths in Seki made katanas and samurai swords. They were some of the most sought after swords in the whole of Japan. When it became illegal to carry a sword in Japan the swordsmith’s utilised their existing skills and focussed on bladesmithing for kitchens/chefs/cooks and home cutlery. This tradition has been passed down through generations and these knives are the product of this beautiful history.
You will not regret this purchase, highly recommend!
